About Mayura Life
Hi, I’m Tammy Richmond, founder of Mayura Life, and like many of us my journey hasn’t exactly followed a straight line. Life has taken me on twists and turns, but each step has brought me closer to where I’m meant to be—right here, sharing what I’ve learned with you.
Two years before the chaos of COVID-19, I was already navigating my own personal crossroads. For 17 years, I had poured my creativity into the world of Fashion Design. It was a career that felt like home—until it didn’t. Slowly, the passion that once fuelled me began to fade, leaving me wondering: What is happening? Why do I feel this lack in my life?

Determined to find the answer, I took a “working sabbatical” to travel, explore, and rediscover myself. And then, in the most unexpected twist, I found myself entering the yachting industry—at the age of 39. It was a path typically pursued by twenty-somethings, and honestly, it felt a bit absurd and completely out of my comfort zone! But after trying (and failing) to ignore the synchronicities that led me there, I took a leap of faith.
That leap gave me exactly what I needed: adventure, perspective, and a deeper awareness of who I am outside of the person I thought I was—the "fashion designer."

This new path eventually led me to India, a place that truly changed everything. In Rishikesh, I immersed myself in yoga, pranayama, and Kundalini practices. During one breathwork session, I experienced something profound—the transformative power of breath. For the first time, I felt an incredible sense of peace and connection, and I knew I had to share this gift with others.
I went on to train as a Breathwork Practitioner with Breathwork Africa, and it’s been an honor to help others reconnect with themselves through the power of breath.

Now based in the picturesque coastal town of Hermanus, I’ve found my place. I guide individuals and groups through breathwork and yoga.
Though my path looks vastly different from my days in Fashion Design, it feels beautifully whole. I’ve even found a way to weave my love for fashion into this new chapter, with a spark of creativity that has been renewed in ways I could never have imagined. Creating a yoga line, that mixes naturals and the vibrancy of Hermanus South Africa.
This journey has taught me that life doesn’t always go as planned—but sometimes, it leads you exactly where you’re meant to be.
Why the Peacock?
Mayura is the Sanskrit word for peacock — a symbol of renewal, beauty, and resilience. In many traditions, the peacock embodies the ability to transform what is heavy or toxic into something vibrant and life-giving. Its feathers remind us of wholeness — the eye-like patterns a mirror of awareness, vision, and presence.

Life is the breath that moves through us. The simple, everyday rhythm that connects body and spirit, effort and ease, power and pause.

Together, Mayura Life is an invitation:
-
To live with awareness.
-
To embrace the dualities of strength and softness.
-
To remember the beauty that arises when we honour both stillness and movement, both rest and expansion.

It is not about becoming someone new — it’s about uncovering the colours already within you, waiting to shine.
